Libya
A total of 120 bodies of migrants who died trying to cross the Mediteranean to Europe were found around Sabratha in western Libya in July.
According to Sabratha’s mayor, the bodies were being dumped on a daily basis and sometimes up to 53 were discovered on a single day.
The number of crossings has increased since spring due to calmer weather.
Many migrants have been benefiting from the political turmoil in Libya giving the leeway for smugglers to transport them to Europe.
The estimated number of migrants who have died trying to cross to Europe this year stands at 3.000.
A Libyan Unity government has been trying to establish itself since March and has placed migration as its priority.
